Ice damming:

With our Winnipeg weather ice damming is a very common problem. This typically happens with the heat from the house coming up and warming up the roof deck, then freezing and repeating the process, the ice can in fact lift shingles forcing ice underneath and potentially into your home. Extreme heat loss in some cases has caused frosting of the roof deck which leads to excess moisture in your attic and insulation come spring time. There are multiple reasons why this could be happening, insulation and vapor barrier could potentially play a roll in your issues. When should i replace my roof?

As professionals we do not recommend that you wait until disaster strikes to call for a quote!

Here are a few ways you can tell that the lifespan of your roof is coming to an end:

Buckling and curling of shingles: This typically occurs with excess moisture in the attic causing nails to push out of place and loosen the shingles. This compromises the shingles and can result in even more damage.

Missing Granules: Asphalt shingles are made up of small granules, when to many of these granules fall off they can impact the performance of the shingles. This will mostly be seen in your eavestroughs.

Missing shingles: Missing shingles can often be replaced without having to replace the entire roof system. While replacing missing shingles we always do an inspection and will inform the customer should we see anything that's a concern.

Siding, soffit, fascia and eaves are critical in protecting your home from the climates, not to mention the beauty and curb appeal they can add!

Soffits not only prevent animals from getting into your attic and  damaging your home, they also allow ventilation across the attic.The fascia is the wood attached to the edge of the roof trusses and can be colour matched with the soffits and eavestrough. 

Eavestroughs are responsible for driving rainwater and snow melt away from your roof and foundation as well as any other vulnerable areas of your exterior. That's why it's important to keep them clean and in good repair.
